چکیده

ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT CONSTRUCTION USING THE GORE-TEX LIGAMENT From Major B R Singer, RAMC and Group Captain M WWard,RAF Sir, Captain Bowyer and Major Matthews (1) are to be congratulated for reminding us of the serious implications of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries to a soldier's fitness and career. Their short follow-up (mean of 18 months) reflects the problems inherent in reviewing a mobile population of servicemen. A patient who underwent a Gore-tex ligament reconstruction at Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital during the study period was recently admitted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. He had obtained a good post-operative result and was returned to full military activities. Two weeks prior to admission he had reinjured his knee during military training. Examination revealed medial collateral ligament and ACL instability and the Gore-tex ligament was found to be completely ruptured at arthroscopy. This case unfortunately demonstrates the already noted (2,3) deterioration in results of ACL reconstruction with time. The need for follow-up beyond 5 years in order to assess ligament reconstruction is reinforced.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using the Gore-tex ligament.

Twenty two Army patients with synthetic (Gore-tex) anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions were reviewed (mean follow up 18 months). Reconstruction appeared to abolish the pivot shift sign in all cases, but some subjective instability persisted in all but 6 patients. Outcome was also assessed by medical (PULHHEEMS) grading: 6 patients were fully fit (graded L2), 7 returned to moderate ...

Popliteal artery compression: a complication of Gore-Tex anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Use of the Gore-Tex polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) braided ligament (W. L. Gore & Associates Inc, Flagstaff, Arizona) for reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is associated with high rates of recurrent effusion and ligament rupture (Indelicato, Pascale and Huegel 1989; Fu and Olson 1992). In addition, osteolysis in the tibial tunnel has been reported due to a histiocytic respo...

Effect of Custom Molded Functional Brace on Balance in Patients with Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tearing

Background & Aims: Knee joint is a complex structure and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is one of the most common injuries of it. Anterior cruciate ligament, because of its proprioceptive function, has an important role in balance control and its tearing may tend to balance control deficiency. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of functional brace on the balance in p...

Fluoroscopic analysis of anterior tibial translation during eccentric and concentric phase of knee rehabilitation exercises in men with anterior cruciate ligament injury

Background: The amount of anterior tibial translation during rehabilitation exercises is a key factor in organizing exercise regimen after anterior cruciate ligament injury. Excessive anterior tibial translation could increase the magnitude of tension imposed on injured and reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament knees. Forward lunge and open-kinetic knee extension exercises are commonly used ...
